Gary Cahill has promised Maurizio Sarri that he will get his head down and start working hard to earn a spot in the Chelsea FC team this season.

The England defender has struggled to break into the first team at Stamford Bridge this season and he is yet to make his first appearance in the top flight for Sarri’s side.

Sarri has been tasked with steering Chelsea FC back to the top of English football after the Blues opted to sack Antonio Conte at the end of last season.

The defender is clearly facing some competition for places at Stamford Bridge this term as he looks to try and work his way into contention at the west London club.

And centre-half Cahill has insisted that he is going to do everything he can to try and get himself into the first team in the coming weeks and months.

Speaking in an interview with Chelsea FC’s website, Cahill said: “There’s a new manager, we’re taking on some new ideas, a new philosophy definitely in shape and in the way he sees things.

“Wherever you’re experienced or not, it’s still a matter of getting your head down, working hard and getting fit when you come back for the start of the season.

“It’s been strange coming back so late with the World Cup. It’s been staggered with some players having been back for four, five or six weeks, and some two, but there’s going to be plenty of games coming up.”

Chelsea FC will look to try and maintain their 100 per cent start to the new Premier League season when they take on Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

The Blues were 2-1 winners at Newcastle United in their last outing on Sunday afternoon.
