Maurizio Sarri has admitted that he is a fan of Ross Barkley after the midfielder’s strong display for Chelsea FC in their 2-0 loss to Manchester City on Sunday.

The England midfielder struggled to make much of an impact at Stamford Bridge last season after arriving at the west London club from Everton in the January transfer window.

However, Barkley was in impressive form and was arguably Chelsea FC’s best outfield player during their 2-0 loss to Manchester City, as he played the full 90 minutes at Wembley.

The former Everton man will be hoping to impress new boss Sarri and hold down a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge this season.

And Sarri has clearly already been impressed by what he has seen from Barkley since his arrival at Stamford Bridge as Antonio Conte’s successor last month.

Speaking at his post-match news conference at Wembley about Barkley’s performance, Sarri said: “I like him. He is a technical player. I like him very much.

“He has to improve in the defensive phase. It’s difficult in this moment to play with Jorginho, Cesc and Ross all together, but I like him and he will be very useful player for us.”

Chelsea FC will be looking to at least break back into the top four next season after they finished in a disappointing fifth place in the Premier League table last term under Conte.

The Blues have so far only signed Rob Green and Jorginho ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.
