Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Crystal Palace v Liverpool FC
The Liverpool FC legend believes the Reds will drop points in a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Liverpool FC to drop points in a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night.
The Reds have revamped their squad in their summer transfer window to put Jurgen Klopp’s men in a position to challenge defending Premier League champions Manchester City.
Liverpool FC finished a staggering 25 points behind Pep Guardiola’s side in the title race last term, although the 18-time English champions finished in fourth place.
The Merseyside outfit signed AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker, AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho, RB Leipzig star Naby Keita and Stoke City playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri.
Liverpool FC eased to a resounding 4-0 win over West Ham United at Anfield courtesy of goals from Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Daniel Sturridge to seal three points.
Former Reds defender Lawrenson believes the Merseyside outfit will be held to a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Monday night.
“West Ham were wide open against Liverpool last week, but the Reds will not get the same treatment in south London,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“Eagles manager Roy Hodgson will not give them any space – it is a big part of the way his teams play – and his side will keep this game very tight.”
He added: “Liverpool were impressive against the Hammers, even if you take into account they were up against quite ordinary opposition, but it will be interesting to see how they get on in a much more competitive game.”
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title but the Reds finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
The Merseyside outfit lost 3-1 to La Liga side Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev back in May.
The Reds are still waiting to win their first trophy under Jurgen Klopp.
