Eden Hazard’s father delivers Chelsea FC transfer update
Eden Hazard's father delivers the latest update on the Chelsea FC playmaker's future at the club
Eden Hazard could have signed for Real Madrid from Chelsea FC this summer if Zinedine Zidane had stayed in charge, according to the Belgian’s father.
Hazard’s future was a constant source of speculation throughout the summer transfer window as he watched his Belgian team-mate Thibaut Courtois leave Chelsea FC and sign for Real Madrid.
The 27-year-old playmaker has just entered into the final two years of his contract at Stamford Bridge and it remains to be seen if he will sign a new contract with the west London club.
Now, the Belgian international’s father Thierry has delivered an update on his son’s situation, claiming that a move to Real Madrid would have been more likely this summer if Zidane had remained in charge.
Speaking in an interview quoted by the Sun, Hazard’s father said: “It could have been a different story if Zidane had continued as Real Madrid coach. But he had his reasons to leave.
“I can’t say what happened. Maybe Real Madrid have a policy to give chances to youngsters.
“Eden has another year on his contract next summer, and it’s possible that he’ll still end up at Real.”
Hazard has been in solid form for Chelsea FC so far this season and he netted a penalty to help the Blues claim all three points in their 2-1 victory over Newcastle United on Sunday.
The west London side have won all three of their Premier League games so far this season to leave them level on points with early leaders Liverpool FC.
They will host Bournemouth in the top flight on Saturday.
