Everton would be happy to target Victor Lindelof or Chris Smalling if they are unable to land Marcos Rojo from Manchester United this summer, according to reports in the British media.

TEAMtalk is reporting that the Toffees are keen on a deal to sign Argentina defender Rojo before Thursday’s transfer deadline, but that they would also be open to moves for two of Manchester United’s other centre-halves.

According to the same story, Everton would be happy to sign Smalling on a permanent deal, while Lindelof would be a prospective loan signing.

The same article says that Manchester United are all but certain to offload at least one centre-half before Thursday’s transfer deadline as they prepare their squad for the new campaign.

It is claimed that the Red Devils are looking to make way for the signing of Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.

Manchester United have been linked with a whole host of players this summer but they have so far only tied up deals for Diogo Dalot, Fred and Lee Grant.

Jose Mourinho has been tasked with steering Manchester United to a serious Premier League title challenge this season after they finished second and without a trophy last term.
