Martin Keown sends warning to Liverpool FC’s World Cup star
The Arsenal legend believes Liverpool FC could have a great centre-half partnership on their hands
Martin Keown has warned Dejan Lovren that he will find it difficult to win back his spot in the Liverpool FC team.
The Croatia international played a key role in the Merseyside outfit’s run to the World Cup final following a 2-1 extra-time win against England in the last four.
Lovren’s Croatia side lost 4-2 to France in the World Cup final before the Liverpool FC centre-half and his compatriots finished the tournament as heroes.
Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp started Joe Gomez alongside club record signing Virgil van Dijk for the visit of West Ham United at Anfield last weekend.
The new-look centre-half partnership impressed in Liverpool FC’s 4-0 win over West Ham courtesy of goals from Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Daniel Sturridge.
Former Arsenal star Keown believes Lovren could struggle to earn a spot in the Reds team following Gomez’s impressive display alongside Van Dijk last weekend.
“There will be bigger tests to come this season but Gomez and Van Dijk purred around the pitch like a pair of Rolls-Royces,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“On Sunday’s evidence, Dejan Lovren will find it tough to win back his place.
“These two have the makings of a great Premier League partnership.”
Liverpool FC will take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in their next Premier League fixture on Monday night.
The Reds are sitting at the top of the Premier League table thanks to their superior goal difference.
Liverpool FC lost 3-1 to La Liga side Real Madrid in the Champions League final last term.
