Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool FC star has ‘wonderful level of consistency’
Spurs legend Garth Crooks believes Liverpool FC star James Milner has been wonderfully consistent for the Reds
James Milner has managed to find a “wonderful level of consistency” at Liverpool FC, according to Spurs legend Garth Crooks.
The England international has become a key member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad over the past couple of seasons at Anfield.
Milner played at left-back throughout the 2016-17 Premier League season due to Alberto Moreno’s poor performances.
The 32-year-old was used in the middle of the park last term and Milner helped Liverpool FC to reach the Champions League final.
The former England international has managed to start Liverpool FC’s opening three Premier League games despite the additions of Naby Keita and Fabinho in the summer.
Milner scored Liverpool FC’s opening goal from the penalty spot in a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace last week before the vice captain helped the Reds to ease to a 1-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday evening.
Former Spurs forward Crooks lavished praise on Milner for his excellent performance in Liverpool FC’s 1-0 win over Brighton.
“I feel compelled to include James Milner among my selection because if I don’t he will continue to be overlooked for those who are more skilful, excellent finishers or those who simply have a better day,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“What you get with Milner is nothing special but you do get a wonderful level of consistency. In fact Milner is almost always a candidate for my team most weeks, such are his performances.
“The way the Liverpool captain pounced on Brighton’s Yves Bissouma was reminiscent of a cobra and with a bite to match. Brighton’s error cost them the fixture. The way Leon Balogun gave Bissouma the ball in such a difficult position with his back to the play lacked any thought or consideration for his team-mate.”
The Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term to secure a spot in the Champions League.
Liverpool FC signed AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker and Stoke City forward Xherdan Shaqiri to further improve their options ahead of the new season.
