Jamie Redknapp names key to Liverpool FC’s title challenge
The Liverpool FC legend believes the Reds will need to avoid dropping points against the smaller teams in the title race
Jamie Redknapp believes Liverpool FC will need to avoid dropping points against the smaller teams to launch a sustained title challenge.
The Reds have been talked up as potential title contenders this season following an exciting summer of investment at the Anfield outfit.
Liverpool FC signed AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho in a £39m deal before the Merseyside outfit snapped up RB Leipzig star Naby Keita in a £48m switch.
The Reds have also signed Switzerland international Xherdan Shaqiri in a cut-price £13.5m deal from relegated side Stoke City.
Perhaps the most exciting addition was Alisson Becker after the Brazil number one arrived in a £67m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma.
Liverpool FC made a promising start to the Premier League season thanks to a 4-0 victory over West Ham United following goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Daniel Sturridge.
Former Liverpool FC star Redknapp believes the Reds will need to ensure that they don’t squander valuable points.
“Liverpool turned on the style in their opening-day win over West Ham – but edging the close encounters this season will be key to their title hopes,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“There’s a real optimism at Liverpool right now. You could sense that ahead of the West Ham win on the opening weekend and I don’t think I can recall that much of a buzz around Anfield at the start of a season.
“Yes, when they were on that run under Brendan Rodgers in 2014, when they really started to believe, it was a special place to be.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth spot in the Premier League table last season to ensure their continued participation in the Champions League under German head coach Klopp
The Reds haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second spot in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
