Jens Lehmann says German coach Jurgen Klopp has injected his renowned passion into Liverpool FC.

Klopp is a popular figure in his home nation for his commitment and honesty during spells in charge of Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool FC were 4-0 winners against West Ham at Anfield on Sunday to make a winning start to the new Premier League season.

Former Arsenal and German goalkeeper Lehmann believes Klopp has taken this with him to Merseyside, adding that it has helped Liverpool FC regain their belief and desire to compete at the highest level of English football.

“He is a very good player. We like him,” Lehmann told Sky Sports’ The Debate.

“Jürgen is very passionate. He is authentic. He is seriously committed. He shows his passion.

“He has given Liverpool new passion and desire.”

Klopp is famed for his touchline antics where he often winds up opposition managers with his displays of passion both when his side are winning and losing.

By his own admission, Klopp understands why this winds people up, but he claims he cannot help it.

Klopp has had high-profile spats with opposition managers, sometimes even his own players such as his former centre-back at Borussia Dortmund, Mats Hummels.

However, he has won the hearts of large swaths of the British public with his ecstatic and agonistic responses to events on the football pitch.

The fire in his belly seems to have infected his players and, just as their manager is one of the most exciting figures to watch in world football, so are Liverpool.

Lehmann believes this is the reason he is so well-liked in his homeland, and the reason why his teams are so exciting to watch.
