The Liverpool FC boss would be foolish to leave the Anfield outfit, according to Paul Merson

Paul Merson believes that Jurgen Klopp should stay at Liverpool DC in order to win the Premier League and create a lasting legacy.

Klopp has captured the hearts of many Liverpudlians as he plays exciting, enterprising football and pulls of spectacular results against the very best.

Unfortunately, the German has a reputation for losing finals following setbacks in the Europa League, the League Cup and the Champions League.

But Merson believes it is best for Klopp to stay on Merseyside to break this hoodoo.

He asked on Sky Sports’ The Debate: “Where does he go after Liverpool unless he takes the Germany squad?

“Liverpool haven’t won the squad in 28 years. This(?) will be legendary status.

“He can go to Bayern where they win it on the trot.

“If this happens (in Liverpool), he will be remembered forever. He has built something steadily.”

Liverpool last won the league in 1989-90 but came agonisingly close in 2013-14 but for Steven Gerrard’s iconic slip in the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Liverpool FC seemed to have recaptured that swashbuckling approach to football which took them so close to glory, but there is a feeling among some that they can go one step further under Klopp.

Merson believes Klopp is the man to deliver the illusive league title to Liverpool, and after Sunday’s 4-0 home win over West Ham, the Merseyside club have made the perfect start to this year’s attempt.

However, dethroning Manchester City is going to require a consistency that Liverpool were unable to achieve last season which saw them finish 25 points behind the eventual winners.
