Robbie Savage believe Liverpool FC star Virgil van Dijk is the best defender in the world.

The Reds signed the Netherlands international in a £75m deal from Southampton in the January transfer window after months of speculation linking Van Dijk with a move to Anfield.

Liverpool FC made Van Dijk the most expensive defender in the world after the Merseyside outfit agreed a £75m fee with their Premier League rivals for the Dutch star.

Van Dijk had an immediate impact with a goal on his debut in a 2-1 win over Everton in the FA Cup third round back in January to waste no time winning over Liverpool FC supporters.

The Dutch centre half was a vital part of the Liverpool FC team that reached the Champions League final last term thanks to victories over FC Porto, Manchester City and AS Roma.

Liverpool FC have managed to keep three successive clean sheets at the start of the 2017-18 season thanks victories over West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion.

Former Leicester star Savage believes Van Dijk has established himself as the world’s best centre-half since his move to Liverpool FC.

“Van Dijk is the best centre half in the world at the moment,” Savage told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Liverpool FC are sitting at the top of the Premier League table.
