Mark Lawrenson: What I really think about Liverpool FC star Virgil van Dijk
The Liverpool FC legend is a big admirer of Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk

Mark Lawrenson has hailed Liverpool FC star Virgil van Dijk as a top defender.
The Reds signed the Netherlands international in a world record fee for a defender from Southampton in the January transfer window.
Liverpool FC spent £75m on Van Dijk to raise eyebrows given the Dutch star’s lack of experience at top level European clubs.
However, the 27-year-old has been able to take the Reds to another level thanks to his composure and leadership at the back.
Liverpool FC managed to reach the Champions League final before a 3-1 loss to La Liga giants Real Madrid in Kiev back in May.
Van Dijk was impressive in Liverpool FC’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace last week as the Dutchman kept a wrap on Christian Benteke.
Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson spoke in glowing terms about Van Dijk following his start to the season.
“The first thing he is a very good player,” Lawrenson told Newstalk.
“He leads by example. He can bring others with him. You know when you’ve got a top player.”
The Reds signed AS Monaco star Fabinho, RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, Stoke playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri and AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker in the summer transfer window.
