Virgil van Dijk set out Liverpool FC targets for 2018-19 season
The Liverpool FC star is hoping the Merseyside can challenge for the Premier League title this season
Virgil van Dijk has underlined that Liverpool FC’s target this season is to challenge for silverware.
The Reds were one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the 2018 summer transfer window following the addition of four new players.
Liverpool FC signed AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho, RB Leipzig’s Guinea international Naby Keita, Stoke playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri and AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
The Merseyside outfit started the 2018-19 Premier League season as the second favourites to win the title behind defending champions Manchester City.
Jurgen Klopp’s men laid down a marker with a 4-0 victory over West Ham United at Anfield on Sunday courtesy of goals from Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Daniel Sturridge.
Liverpool FC’s record signing Van Dijk believes the Reds need to find a level of consistency to challenge for silverware this season.
“We know that right now we have a great squad,” Van Dijk is quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
“We have a lot of quality players. Everyone who plays for Liverpool has a lot of quality.
“It’s all about being consistent. We want to challenge for any competition. But we must look at ourselves.
“We want to challenge. I do not feel any pressure in that case but we play every game to win, that’s how our mindset is.”
Liverpool FC signed Van Dijk in a £75m deal from Southampton in the January transfer window.
The Reds made Van Dijk the world’s most expensive defender as Klopp tackled a big weakness in his squad.
The Merseyside outfit are sitting at the top of the Premier League table following a 4-0 win over the Hammers.
Liverpool FC will take on Crystal Palace in their next top flight fixture at Selhurst Park on Monday night.
