Ian Wright is tipping Xherdan Shaqiri to become an important player for Liverpool FC this season.

The Switzerland international completed a move to Liverpool FC in a £13.5m deal from Stoke City in the 2018 summer transfer window.

Shaqiri spent three seasons at Stoke but the 26-year-old’s commitment was often questioned during his time at the Britannia Stadium.

The World Cup star scored nine times in the Premier League last season but Shaqiri couldn’t keep Stoke in the top flight.

Liverpool FC were linked with a move to sign Lyon captain Nabil Fekir in the summer transfer window but a deal failed to materialise.

Shaqiri will be tasked with helping Liverpool FC to bounce back from the disappointment of Philippe Coutinho’s exit last January.

Former Arsenal striker Wright believes the Reds have signed a great player in Shaqiri despite questions over his attitude.

“He has been at Bayern Munich and Inter Milan,” Wright told Sky Sports’ The Debate.

“He has played with big players. He will go to Liverpool and he will instantly respect everything that is going on. He will be an asset. He can score goals and create. He has everything.”

Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.

The Reds are still waiting to win their first trophy under German head coach Klopp after his appointment in October 2015.
