Xherdan Shaqiri: Why Liverpool FC was perfect move for me
The Liverpool FC playmaker believes the Reds are the perfect club for the Switzerland international
Xherdan Shaqiri believes Liverpool FC are the perfect club to get the best out of the Switzerland star.
The Merseyside outfit signed Shaqiri in a cut price £13.5m deal from relegated Stoke City in the 2018 summer transfer window.
Shaqiri is tasked with helping to replace the void left by Brazil star Philippe Coutinho following his move to FC Barcelona in a £142m deal in January.
The Switzerland international was inconsistent during his three seasons at Stoke City with 15 goals in 92 games in all competitions.
Shaqiri netted eight times in 38 games last season under Mark Hughes and his replacement Paul Lambert at the Potters.
The 26-year-old has a wealth of experience in Europe from his spell at Basel, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.
The Swiss star made his Liverpool FC debut in a 4-0 win over West Ham United at Anfield earlier this month.
However, Shaqiri is delighted to be a member of the Liverpool FC squad following his cut price move.
“The manager has brought a few players in this summer with very good quality who are going to help a lot,” Shaqiri told Liverpool’s official matchday programme.
“This team needed a little competition in various positions because that makes you better and makes you stronger.
“So I am looking forward to the season and we have started very well.
“I believe that I can play every position along the front line and the coach knows that.
“I played every position in the friendlies: I played as a nine, I played as a 10 and I’ve played as a winger.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a spot in the Champions League.
The Reds lost 3-1 to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final last term to miss out on a first trophy under Klopp.
The Merseyside outfit have also signed AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho, RB Leipzig star Naby Keita and AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
