Manager tips Liverpool FC to challenge for Premier League title
Liverpool FC will be genuine Premier League title contenders this season, says Chris Hughton
Liverpool FC will be genuine Premier League title contenders this season, according to Chris Hughton.
The Reds are looking to establish themselves as one of the main challengers of Manchester City’s dominance in the top flight this term as Jurgen Klopp looks to continue making an impact at Anfield.
Klopp has earned lots of praise for the impact he has had since taking over at the Merseyside outfit back in October 2015, but the Reds are yet to win their first trophy under the German manager.
Liverpool FC reached the Champions League final last term but ended up losing to Real Madrid, and the Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League table.
The Merseyside outfit were busy in the summer transfer window as they brought in four new players ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.
And Hughton feels that the Reds will be among the contenders for the title this term.
Speaking before Brighton’s trip to Anfield on Saturday, Hughton told his pre-match news conference when asked if Liverpool FC can win the title: “Yes.
“Simply because they are a team – and because they didn’t win it you sometimes forget – but they got to the final of the Champions League final last year.
“And if some circumstances had been different they might have won it.
“So you are talking about a team of that level, and I think they have improved the squad, so I think you have to [regard Liverpool as title contenders].
“Man City I think would naturally be the favourite because of what they have done last season and how convincing they were last season.
“But yes, I would consider these to be very much title contenders as well.”
Liverpool FC brought in Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri, Fabinho and Alisson Becker in the summer transfer window as they prepared for the new campaign.
