Danny Murphy has told Liverpool FC that it’s not all about winning trophies this season – but the Reds must show progress under Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds are still looking to win their first trophy under Klopp since his appointment at Anfield back in October 2015.

Klopp has been earning lots of praise for the impact he has had at Liverpool FC but he is yet to guide the Reds to silverware despite their impressive performances.

Liverpool FC ended up in fourth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy last season as they reached the Champions League final but ended up losing to Real Madrid back in May.

The Reds will be aiming to be one of the main contenders for the Premier League title this season as they look to try and challenge Manchester City’s dominance at the top of the table.

And former Liverpool FC midfielder Murphy believes that the main thing that the Reds must show this season is progress.

Speaking in an interview with bwin, Murphy said: “It’s not all about trophies for Liverpool and it’s important not to become obsessed with an idea that it’s silverware or bust.

“Liverpool have been very close to winning trophies under Klopp and though it could be seen as a concern that they haven’t got over the line yet, it’s also a sign as to how close the club is to reaching the peak again.

“Liverpool need to show progress from last year and they need to show they’ve improved in key areas in the Premier League, as well as be competitive for every trophy.

“They need to show they can break down teams who come to Anfield looking to park the bus and they need to have that ruthlessness to beat teams they’re expected to beat.

“That’s the only way Liverpool can expect to close the gap on Manchester City and finish above the likes of Manchester United.”

Liverpool FC will be looking to make it three wins from three in the Premier League on Saturday evening when they host Brighton at Anfield.
