Jurgen Klopp gives latest injury update on Liverpool FC star
Jurgen Klopp reveals that he is hoping that Dejan Lovren will be fit to feature for Liverpool FC after the international break
Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he is hoping that Dejan Lovren will be fit to return to action for Liverpool FC after next month’s international break.
The Croatia defender is yet to be available for selection for the Reds after he missed the Merseyside outfit’s opening two Premier League games of the season due to a pelvic issue.
Klopp has now confirmed that Lovren is also likely to miss Liverpool FC’s clash with Leicester City next weekend due to the problem.
But the Reds boss is hopeful that the defender will be available for selection after the international break.
Speaking at his pre-match news conference before Liverpool FC’s clash with Brighton on Saturday, Klopp said: “Dejan is coming closer but he is not really around team training in the moment.
“I’m not 100 per cent sure what he is doing today because we are the day before the game, so he will not be involved in that [Brighton] game.
“I’m pretty sure no chance for the Leicester game and then hopefully after the international break he will be ready to go. That would be nice.
“That was actually the target from the first day when he was in and we knew about his problems, and we always thought if we can give him that time, if he could come through that time, that would be cool.”
Lovren played a key role in helping Croatia to reach the World Cup final in Russia this summer before they ended up losing to France in the showpiece.
Klopp is aiming to steer Liverpool FC to a genuine Premier League title challenge this season after the Reds finished in fourth place in the table and without a trophy last term.
The Reds are still looking to win their first trophy since Klopp’s appointment at Anfield back in October 2015.
