Liverpool FC attacker explains why he rejected Man United
Sadio Mane explains why he turned down a transfer to Man United back in 2015
Sadio Mane has revealed that he turned down a move to Manchester United before joining Liverpool FC because it was “not right”.
The Senegal international has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top attacking players since moving to Anfield from Southampton back in 2016.
However, Mane has now confirmed that Manchester United want to sign him back in 2015, when Louis van Gaal was in charge of the Red Devils.
However, the 26-year-old said that he rejected the move because it didn’t feel right for him at the time.
Speaking in an interview with the Premier League Today Show, Mane said: “Honestly, I could not believe it.
“Some teams wanted me – Manchester [United] – the wrong team wanted me.
“Of course, I spoke with Van Gaal, and they even made an offer.
“But for me it was not the right club, it was not the right moment. To feel this – the right moment, the right coach, the right club.”
Mane has been one of the Premier League’s top attacking talents since joining Liverpool FC and he helped the Reds to finish fourth in the table and reach the Champions League final last term.
He will be hoping to start for Jurgen Klopp’s men when the Reds return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime with a home clash against Leicester City in the top flight.
Liverpool FC are currently leading the way at the top of the Premier League table after their impressive start to the new campaign.
