Journalist gives update on Liverpool FC’s link to signing 19-year-old
Liverpool FC have a real interest in signing Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund, says James Pearce
Liverpool FC have a real interest in signing Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund, according to reporter James Pearce.
The Reds have long been linked with a move to try and bring Pulisic to Anfield as Jurgen Klopp is known to be a keen admirer of the 19-year-old USA international.
Liverpool FC are still thought to be on the lookout for more signings this summer as Klopp looks to bolster his squad ahead of next season.
However, Liverpool Echo reporter Pearce seems to think that a move for Pulisic to Anfield is more likely to happen next summer than this year.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Pearce said: Klopp’s admiration for Pulisic is well known. He tried and failed to bring him to Liverpool two years ago when Dortmund refused to sell.
“Pulisic has developed a lot since then but he’s still far from the finished article. He only has two years left on his contract and if he doesn’t sign an extension I’d expect LFC to be keen next summer.
“The price tag would probably be more realistic then. As it stands at the moment he wouldn’t get into Klopp’s starting line up. Spending £60m/£70m on a squad player makes little sense.”
Liverpool FC have been busy in the summer transfer window as the Merseyside outfit look to try and win their first trophy under Klopp.
The Reds have brought in Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker so far as they prepare for the new campaign.
Liverpool FC ended up in fourth place in the Premier League table last season and without a trophy after having also reached the Champions League final under Klopp.
The Merseyside outfit will be aiming to be one of the main contenders for the title next term after their trophyless campaign last season.
