Gary Neville delivers verdict on Liverpool FC’s transfer policy
The Man United legend lavishes praise on Liverpool FC for their transfer policy over the past few seasons
Gary Neville thinks Liverpool’s FC recruitment of their feared front-three of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane is one of the secrets to their success.
Salah, Firmino and Mane collectively cost the Merseyside club £111.78m and scored 57 Premier League goals between them last season.
The Liverpool FC stars became the first front-three to each score 10 Champions League goals in the same season to surpass previous records held by attacks at Barcelona and Real Madrid in the last decade.
Salah broke the deadlock and Mane scored twice during Sunday’s 4-0 opening day victory over West Ham.
Former Manchester United defender Neville believes Liverpool have got great value for money for their lethal strike-force.
Speaking to Second Captains podcast, Neville said: “They have signed well. They have signed previously.
“The front three haven’t cost a lot of money in the scheme of things. It is a great front-three.”
Liverpool’s success and savvy recruitment has seen them spend £163.45m this summer on Alisson Becker, Naby Keïta, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri.
Each of these players adds something different that Liverpool have not had before as Liverpool look to build a team behind their formidable forward line.
They also brought in Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk in January for £70.92m, and since then no defender has kept more Premier League clean sheets than him.
Neville believes this shrewd operation in the transfer market underpins the ruthless, high-paced style of play Jürgen Klopp has his side playing every week.
