The Reds were busy strengthening their squad in the summer transfer window with four new faces arriving at Anfield ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
Liverpool FC signed AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho and RB Leipzig’s Guinea international Naby Keita to bolster their options in the middle of the park under Klopp.
Switzerland star Xherdan Shaqiri arrived in a cut price £13.5m deal from Stoke City to add more variety to their attack following Philippe Coutinho’s exit back in January.
Liverpool FC spent £67m on Brazil number one Alisson Becker after the Brazil number one finally completed a move to the Merseyside outfit from Serie A giants AS Roma.
The Reds spent a club record fee on Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk in the January transfer window to reinforce their central defence but questions marks linger over Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip.
Former Arsenal star Merson believes the Reds still need to sign a new centre-half partner for Van Dijk if Klopp is to lead the Merseyside outfit to their first Premier League title.
“Liverpool will give the title a go, they’re the second best now, I think they’ve bought very well, very well,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“They’ve got to be patient. It’s like Rangers and Celtic. Rangers have to look up and think about closing the gap, and then see what happens the following year. That’s what Liverpool have to do too, but I think they’re a centre-half short of winning it.”
Liverpool FC will start the new Premier League campaign with a home clash against West Ham United.
