Jurgen Klopp reacts to Joe Gomez’s display for Liverpool FC v Brighton
Jurgen Klopp was pleased with Joe Gomez's display for Liverpool FC in their 1-0 win over Brighton on Saturday
Jurgen Klopp heaped praise on Joe Gomez following his solid display for Liverpool FC in their 1-0 win over Brighton on Saturday evening.
The Reds claimed their third straight win in a row in the top flight as Mohamed Salah’s goal handed the Merseyside outfit the three points.
The victory left Liverpool FC with nine points from their opening three games in the Premier League as they look to mount a genuine title challenge this season.
Gomez has been a regular fixture and a consistent performer for Liverpool FC under Klopp in recent months.
And the Reds boss has been delighted by the way that Gomez has been performing for the Merseyside outfit of late.
Asked about Gomez’s performance at his post-match news conference at Anfield on Saturday, Klopp said: “Very good and today was a big test.
“Obviously Brighton thought: ‘Let’s pick Joe Gomez for the long-ball challenge with Murray.’ And Joe did really well. They were real challenges, but I don’t think he made one foul. He won 70 or 80 per cent of his duels.
“He did really well, he is a good footballer, I like how his confidence grows as well. His speed is good, he has a lot of nice things for a centre-half, so I am really happy about it. Today, we thought about that change a bit earlier, bringing Joel Matip on and move Joe to the right full-back side.
“I thought in the last four minutes it was a fantastic idea, and we could have done it 10 or 15 minutes earlier.”
Liverpool FC will look to continue their fine start to the Premier League season on Saturday when they take on Leicester City in the top flight at Anfield.
The Reds have won all three of their opening games and have kept clean sheets in every one of them as they look to establish themselves as one of the main contenders for the title.
