Chris Sutton has ruled out Manchester United challenging for the Premier League title this season.

The Red Devils suffered a surprise 3-2 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Sunday evening.

Manchester United’s defeat means the Red Devils have already lost ground on Manchester City, Chelsea FC, Liverpool FC and Spurs.

Jose Mourinho is coming under pressure for the team’s unattractive playing style under his management.

The Red Devils boss appeared to be unhappy with Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward due to their poor summer transfer business.

With morale low at Old Trafford, Manchester United face a difficult test against title rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford next Monday.

Former Chelsea FC striker Sutton believes the Red Devils will struggle to finish in the top four unless their performances improve.

“They won’t challenge for the title this season,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“The best they can hope for is a top four finish. Chelsea are going to get better under Sarri.”

Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge.

The Red Devils have only managed to finish in the top four twice in the last five seasons under three different managers.

Manchester United signed Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke goalkeeper Lee Grant.
