Gary Neville has urged Manchester United supporters to remain patient after their 3-2 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday evening.

The Red Devils slumped to their first defeat of the Premier League campaign following a surprise loss to Chris Hughton’s men in Brighton.

Manchester United were 2-0 down before Romelu Lukaku halved the deficit before half-time before Brighton restore their two-goal cushion.

The 20-time English champions are already three points adrift of title holders Manchester City in the title race after two games.

Manchester United missed out on some key targets in the summer to prompt Jose Mourinho to criticise the board in the English media.

The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge of the Old Trafford outfit.

Former Manchester United defender Neville has urged for calm despite a disappointing result at Brighton on Sunday evening.

“I think we should offer balance,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“It is the second game of the season and it wasn’t all just about the defence. I thought Manchester United were poor going forward as well.

“They were static, they were poor passing through midfield and there were a series of single passes rather than combinations. When you are trying to chase a game, sustaining attacks and pressure-building is critical.”

Manchester United signed Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant in the 2018 summer transfer window.

The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley to miss out on silverware in Mourinho’s second season in charge of the Manchester outfit.
