Gary Neville predicts Jose Mourinho will make Man United tactical change
The Manchester United legend believes the Red Devils will need to make a tactical change next time out
Gary Neville is predicting that Jose Mourinho will revert to a three-man defence after Manchester United lost 3-2 to Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.
The Red Devils were looking to record back-to-back victories at the start of the Premier League season following a 2-1 win over Leicester City at Old Trafford last week.
However, Manchester United were 2-0 down in the opening half hour before Romelu Lukaku halved the deficit with his first goal of the Premier League season.
Brighton secured back-to-back victories over Manchester United thanks to their third goal to condemn Jose Mourinho’s side to a first Premier League loss.
Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof struggled in the middle of the defence to cast doubt on their future as a centre-half pairing at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are already three points behind defending Premier League champions Manchester City to raise questions about their title challenge this season.
The Red Devils will take on title rivals Tottenham Hotspur in their next Premier League fixture at Old Trafford on Monday night in what could be a dramatic fixture.
Former Manchester United defender Neville believes the Red Devils will switch to a three-man defence against Tottenham next Monday.
“I think it will force Manchester United and Jose Mourinho to go three at the back,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“I think, with the centre-backs he’s got, he will resort to that.
“When I look at the centre-back partnerships that he had at Chelsea, they had power and strength in his teams. He hasn’t got that here yet.”
