Gary Neville predicts Man United will finish in top four
The Man United legend believes the Red Devils will finish in the top four
Gary Neville is backing Manchester United to finish in the top four this season despite their poor start to the season.
The Red Devils were 2-1 winners against Leicester City at Old Trafford earlier this month thanks to goals from Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw.
Manchester United suffered a 3-2 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion at Amex Stadium on Sunday evening to slump to their first loss.
Jose Mourinho’s side are already three points behind defending champions Manchester City after the title holders were 6-1 winners against Huddersfield Town.
Manchester United failed to land some of their summer targets in the summer, although the Red Devils snapped up Shakhtar Donesk star Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke goalkeeper Lee Grant.
Former Manchester United defender Neville is still confident that the Red Devils will finish in the top four despite the disarray at Old Trafford on and off the pitch.
“It will get better and Manchester United will get stronger and won’t be easy to play against. I do think they will finish in the top four, but the top four historically has never been the benchmark of what Manchester United are. They have always judged themselves by Premier League titles,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“At this moment in time, that looks unlikely. Obviously it is still early in the season, but it does look unlikely that Manchester United are anywhere near good enough, as we sit here today.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge of the 20-time English champions.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley last term to miss out on silverware in Mourinho’s second season.
