Ian Wright makes bleak Man United prediction about Jose Mourinho
The Arsenal legend believes Jose Mourinho will struggle to reverse Manchester United's ailing fortunes
Ian Wright believes Jose Mourinho will be unable to turnaround his ailing fortunes at Manchester United.
The Red Devils end up in second place in the Premier League table last term to secure their best finish since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
Manchester United finished the 2017-18 season a staggering 19 points adrift of runaway Premier League champions Manchester City.
Mourinho signed Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United missed out on some key targets in the summer transfer window as the Red Devils to strengthen at centre-half and right winger.
The Red Devils were 2-1 winners against Leicester City at Old Trafford to make a positive start to the season.
However, Manchester United lost 3-2 to Huddersfield Town in their second Premier League outing to heap pressure on Mourinho.
The Portuguese head coach is reportedly embroiled with power battles involving Paul Pogba and Ed Woodward.
Former Arsenal star Wright believes Mourinho is facing a bleak future at Manchester United.
“These days a trip to Old Trafford is only a great one to relish because of the stadium — certainly nothing to really chill the bones aside of that,” Wright told The Sun.
“And the saddest thing of all when I look at United under Jose Mourinho? As much as I respect him as a manager, I can’t see any way it is going to turn around.”
He added: “We all know about Jose and his third-year syndrome. But, listening to him talk, it’s as though even he has accepted it himself.”
Manchester United finished in second spot in the Premier League table last term to ensure their continued participation in the Champions League.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley last term.
