Jose Mourinho is facing a real problem with the Manchester United board, journalist Ian McGarry has claimed.
The Red Devils endured a frustrating summer transfer window after Manchester United missed out on some key targets.
Manchester United failed to strengthen at centre-half or on the right wing despite being linked Toby Alderweireld and Willian.
The 20-time English champions signed Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke goalkeeper Lee Grant.
Manchester United were 2-1 winners against Leicester City in their Premier League opener last week.
Mourinho, who took over the reins at Old Trafford in 2016, struck a disgruntled figure despite their opening day win.
Daily Record reporter McGarry believes the Manchester United board trusts Mourinho.
“Mourinho has a real problem,” McGarry told the Transfer Window podcast.
“There is a resistance to him and his spending desires in the board room.”
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last term after finishing 19 points behind champions Manchester City.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley thanks to Eden Hazard’s winner from the penalty spot.
