Luke Shaw has thanked Manchester United’s “amazing” supporters after Monday night’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils were looking to make an immediate return to winning ways in the Premier League following a disappointing loss at the Amex Stadium.
Manchester United suffered a 3-2 defeat by the Seagulls on the English coast to lose ground on their title rivals after just two games.
Jose Mourinho’s side bounce back with a win against title rivals Tottenham Hotspur after victories over Spurs in the last two seasons.
Spurs eased to a 3-0 win over Manchester United thanks to second half goals from Harry Kane and Lucas Moura.
Speaking to Man United’s website about the fans’ support at Old Trafford on Monday night, Shaw said:
“A big thank you goes to the fans for the way they supported us, even when we were down 3-0. It was amazing.
“At the final whistle, the way they clapped the team was really respectful and that was nice for us as players to receive after a disappointing result. To the fans that came out tonight, we are sorry and we will be better next week, we will improve, we will keep working hard.
“It is early in the season, we have got a lot of games to come and we have got to get points. Tonight’s result wasn’t good enough. I am sorry to the fans, not just the ones here but those at home that watched and supported us, but we will look at that over the next week and bounce back against Burnley.”
Manchester United secured their best finish since Sir Alex Ferguson won his 13th Premier League title under the Scottish legend in the 2012-13 season.
The Red Devils finished in second spot last term but Manchester United ended up a staggering 19 points behind defending champions Manchester City.
Mourinho signed Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United will make the trip to Burnley on Sunday evening.
