Sky Sports reporter hints Man United still want to sign Belgium international
Dharmesh Sheth delivers an update on Man United's reported interest in Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld
Manchester United could still be in the market to sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The Red Devils have been strongly linked with a move to bring the Belgian defender to Old Trafford this summer but a transfer has not materialised as the clock ticks down on the window.
Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in trying to bring England defender Harry Maguire to Old Trafford this summer as they look to bolster their options at the back ahead of next term.
It remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will be able to get either of the deals across the line before the transfer deadline next week.
But Sheth feels that Manchester United’s interest in Maguire could be a ploy to try and get Tottenham to soften their stance on selling Alderweireld this summer.
Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, Sheth said: “It [Man United’s interest in Maguire] could be a way of saying that Alderweireld is out of the equation and [they] are going to go for Maguire.
“It might make Spurs think they have to soften their hardball stance.”
Manchester United will be aiming to be one of the main challengers for the Premier League title next season after they finished in second place and without a trophy last term.
The Red Devils have not won the Premier League since 2013.
