Paul Scholes blasts Paul Pogba’s comments after Man United loss
The Man United legend reacts to Paul Pogba's comments after their 3-2 loss at Brighton
Paul Scholes has insisted that Paul Pogba has ‘no defence’ for his comments after Manchester United’s 3-2 defeat by Brighton.
The French midfielder played the full 90 minutes as captain for the second consecutive Premier League game as United lost 3-2 against Chris Hughton’s Brighton side on Sunday.
The 25-year-old also scored for the second match running from the penalty spot, but his overall performance was well below the high standards he sets for himself, particularly after becoming a World Cup winner with France this summer.
Pogba returned to Old Trafford in 2016 after a successful four-year stay in Italy with Juventus, having initially been a product of the youth system at Manchester United.
His first two seasons under Mourinho have been blighted by inconsistency.
Pogba admitted that his ‘attitude was not right’ following their 3-2 loss, which drew instant criticism from BT Sport pundit Scholes.
The ex-Man United super star is a legend at the club, winning 11 Premier League title and two European Cups during his playing career.
Reacting to Pogba’s comments Scholes said: “I hope that is lost in
translation. There is no defence for that comment. There is no defence for that comment.
“You say it to yourself, don’t you? You’re constantly on at yourself, ‘attitude right, make sure it’s right’. You don’t need other people to tell you. You don’t need a manager, you don’t need other players.”
Antonio Valencia was made official club captain by Mourinho this summer but he is currently sidelined with injury, which has allowed Pogba to take up the mantle in recent weeks.
It remains to be seen if after his display against Brighton he will retain the armband against Tottenham next Monday at Old Trafford, which is now a huge game for the club.
