Sam Allardyce fires warning at Man United star Paul Pogba
Sam Allardyce discusses Paul Pogba's stuttering form for Man United this season
Sam Allardyce believes that Paul Pogba is yet to produce consistent form for Manchester United.
The French midfielder re-signed for the Red Devils in a big-money deal back in the summer of 2016 when Jose Mourinho took over but most Manchester United fans would agree that he is yet to hit top gear for the club.
Pogba was widely criticised for his failure to produce consistent performances in the top flight last season but he earned lots of praise as he helped France to win this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
The midfielder was unable to prevent Manchester United from crashing to their second successive defeat in the Premier League on Monday night when they were beaten 3-0 by Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
And Allardyce feels that at 25 years old, it is time for Pogba to step up and start delivering for the Red Devils.
Speaking in an interview with talkSPORT, Allardyce said: “United fans have been waiting for a consistent level of performances from Paul Pogba for so long now.
“Is it ever going to materialise at 25 now? He is at his peak. You have to hold your hands up and say you have not quite got what you expected on a consistent basis. When he plays well, he plays exceptionally well.
“His goals against Manchester City last season and his performance when he got moved just behind the front man was terrific, but we just haven’t seen enough.
“Everybody said he had a brilliant World Cup for France and I never saw that either. I must have to go to the optician.
“When you are the leading man, you have to be leading every week. Your performances cannot dip on a week in, week out basis.”
Manchester United will aim to get back to winning ways in the Premier League when the Red Devils take on Burnley away from home this weekend.
The Red Devils have not won the Premier League since under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.
