BBC pundit raves about Man United star after Leicester win
Garth Crooks praises David De Gea for his solid display for Man United against Leicester City
Garth Crooks has heaped praise on David De Gea following his solid performance for Manchester United in their 2-1 win over Leicester City last week.
The Spanish goalkeeper was in fine form for the Red Devils as he helped Jose Mourinho’s men to kick off the new campaign with a narrow victory over the Foxes at Old Trafford on Friday night.
De Gea endured something of a stuttering World Cup campaign with Spain and was criticised for his displays for his national side.
However, the shot-stopper was back to his best on Friday night as he helped Mourinho’s men to claim the three points in their Premier League opener thanks to goals from Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw.
And BBC pundit Crooks was hugely impressed by what he saw from the Spanish shot-stopper for the Red Devils against the Foxes on Friday night.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Crooks said: “Just when you think you’re starting to see the cracks appear in a footballer, De Gea produces a top-class performance in the opening game of the season.
“I thought that, for a player of his calibre, he had a shocking World Cup for Spain and that his mental capacity to cope with the big occasion was beginning to wane.
“Not against Leicester City it wasn’t. Two world-class saves nailed the game for Manchester United.”
Manchester United will be aiming to challenge for the Premier League title this season as they look to try and win the trophy for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement back in 2013.
The Red Devils will return to action with a trip to Brighton next weekend.
