And Neville was clearly not happy at the Red Devils’ failure to sign Alderweireld ahead of Jose Mourinho’s third season in charge at Old Trafford.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Neville said: “You think of Alderweireld, which to me seemed like a certainty that Manchester United would sign Alderweireld.
“It’s not too much at £50m because ultimately you’ve just got to get the players in. That’s the main thing, get the players in.”
Manchester United got their Premier League campaign off to a winning start on Friday night when they claimed a 2-1 victory over Leicester City at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils will be aiming to challenge for the title this season after having finished second in the table and without a trophy last term.
