Jose Mourinho hailed Luke Shaw’s “complete” performance as Manchester United claimed a 2-1 win over Leicester City in their Premier League opener on Friday night.

The Red Devils got their campaign off to a winning start as goals from Shaw and Paul Pogba handed Mourinho’s men all three points at Old Trafford.

Shaw’s situation at Manchester United has been a constant source of uncertainty in recent seasons due to his failure to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Old Trafford under Mourinho.

However, he was in impressive form as he netted his first career goal to help the Red Devils on their way towards victory over the Foxes at Old Trafford.

And Mourinho was clearly pleased with what he saw from the left-back as Shaw looks to try and hold down a regular spot in the first team in the coming months.

Speaking at his post-match news conference, Mourinho said: “His game was very complete. If I forget the goal, which was an important goal for us, the performance was very complete.

“I think there was one defensive mistake, and probably the linesman could have helped him and given a free-kick against Leicester. But it was a very, very complete performance, now he has to just keep going.

“The mentality was very good, the tactical discipline was very good too. He still had the power to go forward and score an important goal for us.”

Manchester United will be aiming to try and win the Premier League title this season after they finished second and without a trophy last term under Mourinho.

The Red Devils have not won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
