Sky Sports reporter: Man United still keen on signing 29-year-old
Rob Dorsett says Man United would rather sign Toby Alderweireld than Harry Maguire this summer
Manchester United are still keen on a deal to sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett.
The Red Devils have been strongly linked with a move to bring the Belgian defender to Old Trafford this summer as they look to try and build a squad capable of winning the title next season.
Manchester United are still believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they bid to try challenge Manchester City’s dominance of the top flight next term.
Alderweireld’s future at Spurs has been a constant source of uncertainty this summer after his lack of playing time under Mauricio Pochettino last season.
Manchester United have also been linked with a move for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire this summer, but Dorsett believes that the Red Devils would be more keen to land Alderweireld from Tottenham before the transfer deadline later this month.
Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, Dorsett said: “You can’t ignore Alderweireld. I think Mourinho would rather have Alderweireld [than Maguire].
“This is them putting pressure on Spurs to say they will go elsewhere. They are more realistically targeting Alderweireld.”
Manchester United will be looking to challenge for the title next term after they finished second and without a trophy under Jose Mourinho last season.
They have not won the Premier League title since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
