Ian McGarry: Man United have agreed personal terms with 29-year-old
Ian McGarry claims Man United have agreed personal terms with Toby Alderweireld but have not settled on a fee with Tottenham
Manchester United have agreed personal terms with Toby Alderweireld ahead of his proposed transfer from Tottenham, according to Ian McGarry.
The Red Devils have been strongly linked with a move to bring the 29-year-old Belgian defender to Old Trafford this summer as they look to shore up their defensive options ahead of the new campaign.
Jose Mourinho is thought to be keen on a deal to bring the Belgium international into his team ahead of the transfer deadline on Thursday, but it is widely believed that negotiating a fee with Tottenham has been the major sticking point.
Now, football consultant McGarry has claimed that Manchester United have already agreed personal terms with Alderweireld and that they now simply have to settle on a fee with the north London club.
Speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, McGarry said: “It is my understanding that Man United have agreed terms with Alderweireld but it is up to agreeing a fee with Daniel Levy.”
Manchester United will be hoping that a deal can be agreed before the transfer window closes for Premier League clubs on Thursday at 17:00.
The Red Devils will get the new Premier League season under way when they host Leicester City at Old Trafford on Friday night in the curtain raiser.
Mourinho is under pressure to deliver a trophy this term after the Red Devils finished second and without any silverware last season.
