Wayne Rooney has insisted that Manchester United have what it takes to win the Premier League title this season.

The Red Devils have just started their third season under Jose Mourinho as they look to build on their disappointing trophyless campaign last term.

Manchester United finished in second place in the table and without a trophy last term in what was Mourinho’s second campaign in charge.

Mourinho has been tasked with steering Manchester United to their first Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down in the summer of 2013.

And Rooney believes that the Red Devils have everything they need to establish themselves as one of the main contenders for the title this season.

Speaking in an interview with CNN before Monday’s clash with Tottenham, Rooney said: “They have the quality, they just have to keep pushing.

“Mourinho knows what he’s doing and knows how to win titles.

“I’m sure with the quality of players he will have a game plan to push for the title.”

Manchester United won both the Europa League and League Cup in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge but struggled to produce consistent form last term.

The Red Devils only signed three new players in the summer transfer window after having brought in Diogo Dalot, Fred and Lee Grant ahead of the new campaign.

They will return to action with a clash against Burnley next Sunday afternoon.
