Wes Brown sends warning to Man United about summer signings
Wes Brown warns Man United that the still need to bring in some new signings this summer
Wes Brown has warned Manchester United that they still need to bring in some more new signings in order to be capable of challenging Manchester City for the Premier League title next season.
The Red Devils have naturally been linked with a whole host of players this summer but they have so far only brought in Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant.
The transfer window closes on Thursday next week before the Red Devils kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against Leicester City on Friday night.
And former Manchester United defender Brown seems to think that it is crucial for the Red Devils to bring in some more signings this summer as they look to try and assemble a squad capable of winning the title.
Speaking in an interview with 888sport, Brown said: “Mourinho is right to be unhappy – United need to sign more players to challenge City.
“Every team always needs strengthening and every year they must add to their squad. I’m sure that Jose will be trying to do that, even to the last day. I’m also sure that it will happen as well.
“Managers want to get new faces in and Jose is no different. I’m sure he’ll be after someone. Precisely who that will be we don’t know but there are a few names flying about. Last season City ran away with the league and signings need to be made to catch up to them.
“Jose has been very frustrated with the players that he’s got at the moment. I know a lot of people haven’t been there in the US because of the World Cup and, as we’ve seen on the telly, he’s not been happy with that. Maybe showing that is his way of trying to get these signings done.
“He’s definitely upset that he didn’t have his full-strength squad out there in America, especially those first two games. He’ll be pleased that they beat Real Madrid with the team he’s got but he will still want to strengthen his squad and get the best players he can.
“Obviously he is frustrated and the comments are his way of getting that frustration out there. That’s what Mourinho does. He wants his best players with him and he hasn’t got them.”
Manchester United struggled to produce consistent form in the top flight last season as they ended up in second place in the Premier League table.
The Red Devils have not won the Premier League title since their famous final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.
Manchester United had won both the League Cup and Europa League in Mourinho’s first season in charge at Old Trafford.
