Man United urged to swoop to sign 29-year-old attacker
Steve Nicol urges Man United to consider a swap deal involving Willian and Anthony Martial
Manchester United should consider a swap deal to sign Willian from Chelsea FC with Anthony Martial moving in the opposite direction, according to Steve Nicol.
The Red Devils are thought to be on the lookout for some significant reinforcements this summer as they look to try and build a squad capable of winning the title next term.
Manchester United have so far only signed Diogo Dalot, Fred and Lee Grant ahead of Jose Mourinho’s third campaign in charge, and it remains to be seen whether they will get any further deals over the line before the close of the transfer window on Thursday afternoon.
Willian’s future at Chelsea FC has been a constant source of speculation this summer despite his recent comments that he is happy to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for a spot under Maurizio Sarri.
Meanwhile, Martial has been strongly linked with a transfer away from Manchester United after his lack of playing time under Mourinho last term.
And Nicol seems to think that a swap deal involving Willian and Martial would be perfect for both Chelsea FC and Manchester United.
Speaking in an interview with ESPN FC, Nicol said: “If I am Man United, I am taking that [deal] in a heartbeat.
“You know exactly what you’re going to get from Willian. Every time Martial steps on the pitch, you don’t know what you’re going to get.”
Manchester United kick off the new season with a home clash against Leicester City on Friday night.
