Manchester United will make a move to try and sign Willian this summer if Anthony Martial leaves, according to Sky Sports reporter Dhamesh Sheth.

The Red Devils have been strongly linked with a whole host of players this summer but they have so far only brought in three new faces ahead of their third season under Jose Mourinho.

Martial’s future at Old Trafford has been a subject of much debate this summer after his lack of regular playing time under Mourinho last season.

It remains to be seen whether the 22-year-old will stay at Old Trafford to fight for a first team spot next term or seek a move away before the transfer deadline.

Manchester United have been credited with an interest in signing Chelsea FC attacker Willian from the Blues this summer.

And Sky Sports reporter Sheth seems to think that Manchester United will be more likely to sign Willian before the deadline if Martial ends up leaving Old Trafford.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, Sheth said: “If Martial was to leave, the talk of Willian won’t go away.

“They will try to strengthen someone on the right side of the attack.”

Manchester United have so far signed Diogo Dalot, Fred and Lee Grant ahead of Mourinho’s third season at the club.

The Red Devils ended up in second place in the Premier League and without a trophy last season.
