Manchester United will try and bring Zinedine Zidane to Old Trafford if Jose Mourinho leaves the club, according to reports in the British media.

The Sun is reporting that the former Real Madrid boss is Manchester United’s top target if the Portuguese coach’s reign at Old Trafford comes to an end any time soon.

Mourinho has been looking more and more unhappy in recent weeks as the build-up to his third season in charge at Manchester United continues.

According to the same story, Mourinho’s “pre-season meltdown” has deepened fears at the club that he will not see out the final two years of his contract at Old Trafford.

And should Mourinho leave, Manchester United’s first port of call would be to ask Zidane to move to Old Trafford, according to the same story.

Zidane is currently without a job after standing down at Real Madrid at the end of last season after leading them to their third straight Champions League triumph.

According to the same story, Mourinho has raised tensions at Old Trafford by claiming that none of his top five summer transfer targets have been signed this summer.

The Red Devils have so far brought in Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant ahead of next season.
