Martin Keown sends warning to Jose Mourinho ahead of Man United v Tottenham
The Arsenal legend believes Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will be under a lot of pressure if the Red Devils lose to Spurs on Monday night
Martin Keown has warned Jose Mourinho that he will really be under pressure if Manchester United lose to Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.
The Red Devils suffered a surprised 3-2 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium last weekend to heap pressure on Mourinho.
Manchester United are already three points adrift of their title rivals Chelsea FC, Manchester City, Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur.
Mourinho endured a difficult summer transfer window after the Portuguese head coach missed out on some key summer targets.
The Red Devils signed Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United failed to strengthen at centre half despite the well-documented struggles of Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof over the past 12 months or so.
Former Arsenal defender Keown believes Mourinho will be under a lot of pressure if Manchester United suffer successive Premier League losses at Old Trafford on Monday night.
“IIf Mourinho thought he was feeling the heat in the summer when he was complaining about United’s transfer business then he would be under even more pressure if he loses on Monday,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“Tottenham may have a bad record at Old Trafford but it is not a fixture Mourinho would have wanted at this stage of the season.
“A game of this magnitude will focus the minds of the United players. Mourinho has a good squad. All they are short of is a bit of confidence.”
The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge of the Old Trafford outfit.
Manchester United finished in second spot last term but failed to win silverware after a 1-0 loss to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
