Fred makes title claim ahead of Man United v Tottenham
The Man United summer signing sends warning to the Red Devils ahead of their upcoming clash against Spurs on Monday night
Fred has warned Manchester United that beating Tottenham Hotspur is a must if the Red Devils want to win the Premier League title this season.
The Brazil international completed a move to Manchester United in a £52m deal from Ukrainian Premier League champions Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer transfer window.
Fred was signed to improve Jose Mourinho’s options in the middle of the park after Michael Carrick retired at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.
Manchester United were 2-1 winners against Leicester City in their opening Premier League fixture courtesy of goals from Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw.
However, Jose Mourinho’s side suffered a 3-2 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium last weekend to heap pressure on Manchester United.
The Red Devils are already three points adrift of title rivals Chelsea FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur following two games.
Manchester United will be hoping to get back to winning ways against Spurs at Old Trafford on Monday night.
Speaking ahead of their upcoming clash against Tottenham, Fred warned Mourinho’s squad that they can ill afford to lose more ground in the title race.
“It’s a very important game,” Fred told Sky Sports News.
“This week we’ve been working, focusing on this game, we want to go out and get the win in front of our home fans.
“We know Tottenham are a great team but we need to get the win if we are to aspire to win the league.”
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last term.
