Martin Keown sends warning to Man United about Tottenham approach
The Arsenal legend has warned Manchester United that the Red Devils can't afford a casual approach against Tottenham on Monday
Martin Keown has warned Manchester United that they can’t afford to adopt a casual approach against Tottenham on Monday night.
The Red Devils signed Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred, FC Porto teenager Diogo Dalot and Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant this summer.
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last term after finishing 19 points adrift of champions Manchester City.
The 20-time English champions were 2-1 winners against Leicester City at Old Trafford in their Premier League opener earlier in August.
Manchester United succumbed to a 3-2 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion at Amex Stadium last weekend to heap pressure on Jose Mourinho.
Former Arsenal star Keown believes Manchester United will need to be disciplined to have a shot at beating Tottenham on Monday.
“In recent seasons, Tottenham have gone to Old Trafford as one of the Premier League’s big teams,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“There is an added expectation on them to perform.
“When we have seen United slip up at home since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, it has tended to be when they have been too casual against teams they would be expected to beat.
“You cannot be casual when you face Tottenham.
“Spurs have not scored a goal or picked up a single point at Old Trafford under Mauricio Pochettino. That will be playing on the players’ minds on Monday night. “
