Manchester United target Toby Alderweireld is unlikely to remain at Tottenham Hotspur, reporter Michael Bridge has claimed.

The Red Devils have been linked with a swoop to sign the Belgium international in the current transfer window to bolster their defence.

Alderweireld is one of the top centre-halves in the Premier League over the past few seasons following his move from Atletico Madrid.

The 29-year-old is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2018-19 season unless Spurs decide to activate a clause in his contract.

Spurs have the option to extend Alderweireld’s deal by an extra 12 months but the Belgian centre-half will be available to sign for £25m.

However, Manchester United have been linked with other defensive targets in recent weeks to suggest a move for Alderweirled won’t happen.

Sky Sports News reporter Bridge hinted that Alderweireld is likely to leave Spurs in the summer transfer window.

“It looks increasingly unlikely Alderweireld will stay,” Bridge told the Transfer Window podcast.

Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last season to secure their best finish since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

The Red Devils didn’t add any silverware to their haul in the 2017-18 season following a 1-0 loss to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final.
