Manchester United could rekindle their interest in Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld, reporter Duncan Castes has claimed.
The Red Devils are thought to be in the market to sign a new centre-half in the summer transfer window to improve Jose Mourinho’s team.
Manchester United were initially linked with Alderweireld but Spurs’ asking price of £75m proved a big stumbling block.
The 20-time English champions have also shown an interest in Leicester City’s World Cup star Harry Maguire in the current transfer window.
AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci and Real Madrid centre-half Raphael Varane in the summer transfer window so far.
Sunday Times reporter Castles believes Manchester United could make a fresh bid to sign the 29-year-old.
“Alderweireld could come back into the situation if Tottenham reduce their asking price for the player and Alderweireld reduces his wage demands,” Castles told the Transfer Window podcast. “Spurs are under pressure to provide signings from their own manager.”
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last term to secure their continued participation in the Champions League.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final last term thanks to Eden Hazard’s winner from the penalty spot.
