Jurgen Klopp sends warning to Liverpool FC about 25-year-old Palace star
The Liverpool boss was full of praise for Monday’s opposition and warned his players and fans to expect a tough test as they travel to Selhurst Park
Jurgen Klopp has warned his players to expect a sterner test than they faced against West Ham when they travel to South London to take on Crystal Palace on Monday.
Klopp’s side comprehensively overcame the Hammers in a 4-0 victory at Anfield last Sunday, who were set up with a high line which was ruthlessly exploited by Liverpool’s fabled front-three.
Palace went to Premier League new boys Fulham and came away with three points.
And Klopp is concerned about them and Wilfried Zaha, who got on the scoresheet in last weekend’s London derby.
“I really think that with all the good results they had their confidence grew a lot in the last year,” Klopp told the Liverpool FC website
“You could see that in the last period of the season, they were very consistent with results.
“Pre-season was good and now the first game was good.
“He [Zaha] scored but they played real football and I think three or four of their new players were not even in the squad or didn’t start.”
Palace won 2-0 despite only having 34% possession and conceding 15 shots which most are attributing to their superior organisation.
Roy Hodgson, Palace’s manager, is notorious for having well-drilled teams who achieve beyond expectations, but the team he has is not lacking in attacking threat, mainly through Zaha.
Zaha scored the second goal after a mazy piece of skill got him round the highly-rated Ryan Sessegnon as Palace spoiled Fulham’s Premier League return.
Despite a losing their first eight games of last season, Roy Hodgson came in and guided them to an eleventh placed finished, and Klopp is well aware of the hazards of underestimating such a dangerous outfit.
