Ray Parlour is backing Lucas Torreira to be a big hit at Arsenal in the coming seasons.

The Uruguay midfielder signed for the Gunners from Sampdoria earlier this summer as new boss Unai Emery moved quickly to bring in some fresh talent to his squad ahead of his first season in charge at The Emirates.

Torreira reported to London Colney to begin pre-season training this week as he looks to settling into life in the Premier League as quickly as possible.

The midfielder will be aiming to prove himself as worthy of a regular spot in the first team at The Emirates in the coming seasons as he looks to impress new boss Emery.

And Parlour has revealed his excitement at seeing Torreira line up for the Gunners next season as the new signing gets to grips with life in England.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Parlour said: “Torreira looks like a lively player.

“He’s the sort of player you would need in midfield – great energy and mobile.”

Arsenal will be aiming to at least be one of the challengers for the top four next season after they finished in sixth place and without a trophy under Arsene Wenger last term.

The north London side have not lifted the Premier League trophy since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
